“We may be mixing our holiday fables, but your IT network can be a lot like the homes of Who Ville. Before the Grinch can take advantage of your IT network this holiday season, here are a few strategies to consider…”

Why excluding IT in M&A planning is a recipe for failure

“Whether it’s Burger King and Tim Horton’s or AT&T and DirecTV, we live in a business culture that hinges on mergers and acquisitions, with hundreds of millions or billions of dollars at stake. Again and again, however, CIOs and other IT leaders are not part of the due diligence team preparing and planning for the deal. During the fast-paced execution process, priorities such as operations integration and even the risk of losing critical operational knowledge along with human capital can be seen as an afterthought."

Why CIOs Should Be More Involved In Acquisitions

Whether it's Facebook and WhatsApp or Burger King and Tim Horton's, we're living in a business culture that hinges on the next merger or acquisition, with hundreds of millions to billions of dollars at stake. All too often, however, CIOs and IT leaders are not part of the planning for mergers or acquisitions. In the fast-paced excitement of executing the deal, IT priorities like application rationalization and operations integration can be viewed as an afterthought.

Green Data Centers Fail to Live Up to Cost-Savings Promise

(Registration required to read article)

Predictions about energy-efficient technologies saving data centers significant money that could be plowed into other parts of the operation have largely failed to materialize ... "Data centers in general are not all that green to begin with. It takes a lot of power to run one," Harris said. "Some look at the greening of a data center as an oxymoron" ... Forsythe is now building a 221,000 sq. ft. data center in Elk Grove, Ill. that will feature private suites with dedicated power and cooling infrastructure. The facility will use a pumped refrigerant type of air conditioning that allows Forsythe to offer individualized air conditioning on a per-suite basis and will achieve power usage effectiveness (PUE) ratios on par with chilled water systems.
